The term stereocenter was introduced in 1984 by Mislow and Siegel. A stereocenter or stereogenic center can be an atom bearing groups in a way that an interchanging associated with any two groups brings about a stereoisomer. The most typical stereocenters are chiral facilities (such as asymmetric carbon atoms) along with the double-bonded carbon atoms inside cis-trans alkenes.
