Monocalcium aluminate (CaAl2O4) is one of the series of calcium aluminates. It is typically used in various industrial applications, including in the production of cement, particularly in the creation of calcium aluminate cement (CAC), which is known for its rapid-setting and high-temperature resistance properties. It does occur in nature, although only very rarely, as two polymorphs known as krotite and dmitryivanovite, both from meteorites. It is important in the composition of calcium aluminate cements.

Monocalcium Aluminate is predominantly synthesized in the industrial sector, especially for use in cement chemistry and material sciences. It is produced by heating a mixture of lime (CaO) and alumina (Al₂O₃) at high temperatures, a process that mirrors the production of Portland cement.

It is a key component in the production of calcium aluminate cement (CAC), which has superior resistance to sulfate attack and is used in environments where ordinary Portland cement would fail, such as in marine and industrial environments.
