Genetically modified crops are plants used in agriculture, the DNA of which has been changed using genetic engineering techniques. In most cases the aim is to introduce a brand new trait to this plant which won’t occur naturally within the species. Examples with food crops include resistance to a number of pests, diseases, or environmental conditions, reduction of spoilage, or resistance to help chemical treatments or improving the nutrient profile in the crop.
