prime purpose of this lecture is to focus on Azo Compounds. Azo compounds are compounds bearing the functional group R–N=N–R′, in which R and R′ can be either aryl or alkyl. Azo group is stabilised by becoming part of extended delocalised system. Here also briefly describe on Diazo coupling reactions. Diazonium salt acts as an electrophile – reacts with benzene ring of coupling agent. Coloured precipitate of azo compound immediately forms.
Important use as dyes.
