The primary explicit use of the phrase “phenomenology of religion” occurs in the Lehrbuch der Religionsgeschichte, written by Pierre Daniël Chantepie de chicago Saussaye in 1887, wherein he articulates the duty of the science of religion and gives an “Outline of the actual phenomenology of religion”. The phenomenology of religion beliefs concerns the experiential area of religion, describing religious phenomena in terms in keeping with the orientation of worshippers.
