The hydrologic cycle begins with the evaporation ofwater from the surface of the ocean. The main events of the hydrologic cycle are: (1) The evaporation of water from the ocean, (2) the transport of water vapor through the atmosphere, (3) condensation and precipitation of water on the land, and (4) return of water to the ocean by rivers and streams. Precipitation is water in the liquid or solid form that returns to the surface of the earth.
