This lecture introduce on Snowflake Symmetry: Rotations and Translations in Nature. Snowflakes are all six sided because of their chemistry. They are made of water molecules. Water molecules are “polar” – they have an electrical charge. Snowflakes are symmetrical because they reflect the internal order of the water molecules as they arrange themselves in the solid state. Water molecules in the solid state, such as in ice and snow, form weak bonds to one another.
