Civil Engineering is arguably the second-oldest engineering, discipline after military engineering. It is the design and construction of public works, such as dams, bridges and other large infrastructure projects. It may also handle site preparation activities, such as excavation, earth moving and grading for large construction projects. It takes place in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.
