A Trip by Car

Road trips are without a doubt one of the best ways to feel refreshed and relaxed. Simply get on your bike or in your car and see where the road takes you. Most road trips are planned, but it has been observed that spontaneous road trips with friends are always enjoyable. Road trips are an enjoyable way to discover new places. We will learn more about road trips and travel in this essay.

We started early in the morning, at 7 a.m. It was a Sunday, and traffic in Kuala Lumpur was light. We arrived at the Kepong toll plaza in just fifteen minutes from our home in Petaling Jaya. My father gave the girl working one of the booths 50 sen, and we continued our journey north. We were on our way to see my mother’s parents in Ipoh. My father chose to take the old trunk road rather than the expressway to avoid paying a toll. We only had to pay 50 sen to enter Kepong. My younger sister and I sat in the back of the car, while my parents sat in front.

The scene after the toll plaza was very different from what we had seen in K.L. Tall limestone hills replaced high-rise buildings. As we drove past the Selayang wholesale market, my father mentioned that Batu Caves was on our right. We could see limestone outcrops and signs pointing us in the direction of Batu Caves.

We quickly passed Selayang and entered a winding road that took us past Templer Park and on to Rawang. The red morning sun shone on our right side the entire time, lighting up the beautiful countryside scenery.

Rawang was a small town, but there were signs of impending development. In any case, we continued north, past the town. According to my father, the road is usually congested. We were fortunate to have chosen Sunday, so we were able to move quickly. We didn’t travel along this road very often, so there were plenty of new sights to see. I took note of the names of the small towns we passed through. Serendah, Kerling, Batang Kali, Kalumpang, and others whose names I cannot recall. All of them were practically one-street towns, and I wondered what life was like in one of them.

We arrived in Tanjong Malim around 9 p.m. We didn’t go in because the main road went around the town. Still, I could see the town from a distance as we passed through the traffic lights near the town. We’d just crossed into Perak. Tanjong Malim to Slim River, the next town, was very close. The traffic was light, and my father made quick work of the short stretch, but he made sure he stayed within the speed limit of 90 km/h. Sure enough, his prudence paid off because we saw some police cars along the way. They had clearly been driving too fast.

I felt sleepy after Slim River, and my interest in the scenery waned. So I took a quick nap. My father had stopped the car when I awoke to buy some jambu in Bidor. I felt revitalized after eating the fruit and became more interested in my surroundings. We then drove through Tapah, Kampar, and a few other smaller towns before arriving in Ipoh. As we approached town, traffic conditions worsened, but since it was Sunday, it wasn’t too bad.

Ipoh was a large city, but there were very few high-rise buildings. Anyway, we were there for a reason, and after a brief journey through the streets of Ipoh, we arrived at my grandparents’ house. In the car, I glanced at the time. It read 10.45 a.m.
