Thank you all for taking out time and being present at this seminar session. Today, we are here to discuss/celebrate the most important day, ‘World Water Day’.
World Water Day is celebrated on 22nd March each year as a way to concentrate attention on the value of freshwater and to encourage the sustainable use of freshwater resources. The day was created by the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly to be observed as an annual event in 1993. This day is a chance to learn more about problems related to water, to be encouraged to tell others, and to take action to make a difference. A fundamental building block of life is water. Quenching thirst or maintaining health is more than just essential; water is crucial for job creation and for fostering economic, social, and human growth.
During World Water Day, several activities are organized internationally. These include:
- Visual art, theatrical and musical celebrations of water.
- Symposia on the management and security of water for local, national, and foreign leaders.
- Educational events on the importance of clean water and protecting water resources.
- Campaigns and events to raise money for access to clean and affordable water.
- Excursions to local rivers, lakes, and reservoirs.
- Special broadcasts on television and radio and the Internet.
- Walks runs and swimming other sports competitions.
World Water Day is an international day of celebration; it is meant to encourage people around the world to learn more about water-related problems and to take action to make a difference. It was first formally included the timetable 21st of the year 1992 “United Nations Conference on Environment and Development” in the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and festivity was begun from the year 1993 to persuade the overall population to get their help in water preservation by evading the utilization of their taps for the entire day.
Non-governmental organizations working in the WASH sector, such as UNICEF, Water, and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), are using the day to raise public awareness, raise awareness of water problems in the media and promote action. The activities included the publication of magazines and films and the organization of round tables, conferences, and exhibitions. World Water Day is praised all through the world to build the consciousness of individuals towards the significance of water in different fields of life including climate, wellbeing, farming, and exchange.
On World Water Day in 2005, The Water for Life Decade was initiated. This decade will run from 2005 to 2015 and will give a high profile to the involvement of women and the water programs of the UN. The shape of a blue water drop is the key emblem of the celebration of World Water Day. Via social media, dedicated blogs, and other platforms, World Water Day campaign messages and publications meet millions of people every year. UNESCO is also contributing to the celebration of World Water Day through its International Hydrological Program (IHP), which works year-round to develop a scientific knowledge base to help countries sustainably manage their water supplies.
