NASA’s Perseverance Took The Cutest Selfie With Ingenuity

NASA’s Curiosity rover has used some of our incredible selfies in its many years of service. Now that perseverance is also on Mars, NASA is doubling down on cute self-portraits from Rovers. In addition, they decided to stick to this latest one, Percy captured by the Martian helicopter itself with the engine. In the double selfie, Perseverance first looks at the curiosity and then turns his “head” to look at the camera.

In addition, yes, we know that the robotic explorers of the solar system should not anthropomorphize us, but it does look like a proud older sibling waiting for the plane for his little friend. Everything is going well; the planet’s historic flight – the first powered flight to another planet – will take place this April 11. The stunning image was created by stitching together two individual images collected by the Watson (Wide Angle Topographic Sensor for Operations and Engineering) camera attached to the robotic robotic arm. Watson is part of his shark (scanning the habitable environment with Raman and Luminescence for Organics and Chemicals).

We cannot help but admire the nerdy people at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for these great backronyms. These instruments will help us find more clues to the biggest question: has Mars ever been, or has been? Perseverance has lofty goals for its mission, but one of them is to inspire interest and curiosity about exploring the places on our planet that still exist outside of Earth. If you send back, “If You Were Here” then selfies is what we all do for it.
