Genomics is the study of the entire set of genes found in living things, including humans, plants, animals and even viruses. It is an area within genetics that concerns the sequencing and analysis of an organism’s genome. Genomics also involves the study of intragenomic processes such as epistasis, heterosis and pleiotropy as well as the interactions between loci and alleles within the genome. The field of genomics is interested in genome as a whole structure and investigates a single genome only if it is important for the genome as a structure.
