DJI Suspends Sales in Ukraine and Russia

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is far from the first time DJI has been chastised for its decisions. However, the Shenzhen-based drone behemoth is doing everything it can to avoid any suggestion that it is taking sides in the ongoing dispute. Following requests to cease Russian sales, the company published a statement headlined “DJI Reassesses Sales Compliance Efforts In Light Of Current Hostilities,” which states that operations will be suspended in both countries “pending evaluation.” The following is the complete statement.

DJI is reevaluating compliance standards in several jurisdictions internally. DJI will temporarily halt all commercial operations in Russia and Ukraine pending the outcome of the current review. Regarding the temporary suspension of commercial activities in the impacted regions, we are interacting with customers, partners, and other stakeholders. The corporation, which has been a favorite target of Trump’s government, has been trying hard to avoid charges of supporting one side or the other in the battle. Ukraine officials, on the other hand, have previously suggested that the business may have damaged its own products on purpose. DJI, for one, has said categorically that their products are not offered for military use.

“Our distributors, resellers, and other business partners have committed to following it when they sell and use our goods,” the firm said in a statement released earlier this month. They promise not to sell DJI goods to clients who obviously intend to use them for military reasons, or to assist in the modification of our products for military use, and they understand that if they fail to meet this pledge, we will terminate our commercial connection with them.”

In March, the business reacted to a comment on Twitter by Ukrainian vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, saying it would set up geofencing if asked. The corporation was also eager to point out that a skilled drone operator could simply get around such limitations. “Please be warned that geofencing is not infallible,” the business said, “and the new geofence will not take effect for the drone if the user does not connect to the internet to update the geofence data.” Such a remark does, however, highlight some larger flaws with present drone safety protocols, whether or not they are used by the military.

DJI was formed more than 15 years ago to investigate the incredible new potential of drone technology. We’ve been pushed not merely by the technical challenge of robotic innovation, but also by how this new technology may aid people, from our initial attempts at making miniature helicopters to our most cutting-edge drones for professionals.

And with each advancement, our drones have contributed to making the world a better place. Our tools have enabled new ways of seeing the world, a new narrative language for artists, new business and career prospects, new food-growing and environmental-protection strategies, and new emergency response capabilities. Our drones have helped to save endangered animals, worldwide landmarks, and lives all over the world.
