Root Hair Cells

Root Hair Cells

Roots have specialized cells called root hair cells, which are long and thin providing a large surface area for the uptake of water and minerals. This article briefly describe of this topic. Plants absorb water from the soil by osmosis. Root hair cells are adapted for this by having a large surface area to speed up osmosis. Here also focus on how happen these process: the water in the soil has a weak solution of salts; the cell sap has a more concentrated solution and water moves from the soil into the root hair along a water concentration gradient.
