Preparing for an examination
The Final Examination is just a couple of months away. First of all, do the reading, go to the lectures, take careful notes, participate in discussion sections and organize small study groups with classmates to explore and review course materials throughout the semester. It is important that I do well. So I shall have to prepare for it. In other words, I need to revise and study what I have learned throughout the year. First of all, I have to prepare a time-table of study so that I can divide my time properly to the various subjects. I shall have to devote more time to the subjects I am not so good at. One good way to prepare yourself for an exam is by making up questions you think the instructor might give and then planning answers with classmates.
Do set an agenda and a specific time frame for your group study session, so that your work together doesn’t veer off-topic. I shall have two study periods a day, one from three to four in the afternoon and the other from seven to nine in the evening. Take the time to organize lecture notes after class, adding key examples from labs and course readings. I cannot study all the time for my mind will not be able to cope with it. So I must have some time to indulge in games and other forms of recreation. Then I can return to my studies with renewed vigor.
Use both your course notebook and the text’s margins to record valuable information. I am not very good at Geography and History. So I have to spend more time with them. These two subjects require memorizing of many facts. In order that I remember the facts I need to do a lot of reading. Only then the facts will remain in my head. Also, I need to read attentively or the facts will tend to be forgotten quickly.
Other subjects require less memorizing. Make sure you have thought through each question and have at least an outline answer for each. So I am all right with them. I only have to keep in touch with them and I should pass without any problem. Make sure to review and expand upon class notes regularly throughout the semester.
One last thing is necessary. It’s not recommended that you leave studying for the night before a test. I shall have to cut out time-consuming activities like socializing with friends, window shopping, watching videos and listening to pop-songs. I can do these things again once the examinations are over. Often you can improve and solidify your understanding by discussing the concepts and information with someone else.
