Major purpose of this lecture is to present Network Layer Design Issues. These Design Issues are: Store-and-Forward Packet Switching, Services Provided to the Transport Layer, Implementation of Connection-Oriented Service and Comparison of Virtual-Circuit and Datagram Subnets. Here also briefly describe on Routing Algorithms: The Optimality Principle, Shortest Path Routing, Flooding, Distance Vector Routing, Link State Routing, Hierarchical Routing, Broadcast Routing, Multicast Routing etc. Finally focus on Internetworking, How Networks Differ, Connectionless Internetworking.
