Molluscum contagiosum is an infection caused by a poxvirus. The consequence of the contagion is typically a benign, mild skin disease characterized by lesions that may appear anywhere on the body. Within six to twelve months, Molluscum contagiosum usually resolves without scarring but may take as long as four years.
