This aldaric chemical p occurs naturally in lots of plants, particularly watermelon, bananas, and tamarinds, is often combined with baking soda to work as a leavening broker in recipes, and is probably the main acids found in wine. It is put into other foods to present a sour style, and is used as a possible antioxidant. Salts of tartaric acid are called tartrates.
