The idea of postmaterialism was primary coined by American social scientist Ronald Inglehart in the Silent Revolution: Changing Values and Political Styles Among Western Publics (1977). In sociology, post-materialism is the transformation of particular person values from materialist, actual and economic to new individual prices of autonomy in addition to self-expression.
