Polyculture is agriculture using multiple crops from the same space, in imitation on the diversity of pure ecosystems, and avoiding large stands of single crops, or monoculture. It involves multi-cropping, intercropping, companion planting, beneficial weeds, and also alley cropping. Polyculture is one of the principles of permaculture.
