Paper

Introduction: Paper is a thing about which we write. It is one of the most useful articles in everyday life. It is one of the most essential things in modern civilization. We cannot do without it even for a day. It is common knowledge that hundreds, if not thousands, of papers, are being assigned to students all over the world.

How made: Paper is made of rags, grass, straws, bamboos, jute, wood and other waste things. They are dept in water and then boiled to make pulp. The finest paper is made from rags of cotton or linen. Paper is manufactured from experto grass and wood pulp and from straw, jute, and bamboos.

History: Paper was first made and used in China. The Arabs learned it from China. Thousands of years ago, the people of Egypt made paper from the Papyrus plants which grew by the side of the river Nile. The art of making paper was in vogue in Spain in 12 centuries. But the ancient Egyptians performed writing on a soft white thing of a kind of grass named papyrus plant. It grew on the bank of the Nile. Papyrus paper was made in long rolls and books written upon it were rolled up and kept. The working paper is derived from papyrus. Before the invention of paper, the writing was on the leaves of trees and skins of an animal.

Kinds and sizes of paper: Papers are of different kinds, sizes, and colors. Some are very fine, some are coarse, some are white, red, black, green, yellow, brown and orange. The foolscap, the demy, double crown and royal are the standard sizes. These are used for various purposes such as in writing, printing, decorating.

Paper Mills: In the modern, age paper is made in the mills. We have got a very large mill at Chandraghona in Chittagong. There is another paper mill at Pakshey in North Bengal and a newsprint paper mill in Khulna. Their production may be sufficient for our day to day needs. But they lack the fineness and superiority of the foreign paper. We have to import raw materials from other countries to manufacture such kind of paper. The cost of importing raw materials is greater than the cost of importing paper from other lands.

Usefulness: Paper helps a man in the spread of education. It spreads the news among the people of the world. We use it for writing and printing. Without paper, our education and civilization would not have been possible. It is a great blessing to us. It is used for writing and printing. Books, magazines, and newspapers are printed on paper. Paper is often used for money. The paper used for money is made in special ways.

Conclusion: Paper is the most valuable gift of science. Its usefulness is unavoidable. It should be available to us. Our government should take proper steps to produce it largely to meet our demand.
