In preparation for Bristol City’s Championship encounter against Sheffield United at Ashton Gate this evening, Nigel Pearson has made one alteration to the lineup that drew 1-1 with Swansea City.
After two games as a substitute, Andi Weimann, who was not present for the encounter on Saturday, is immediately inserted back into the starting lineup. The Austrian is given the captain’s armband for the evening despite his recent slump in play and extensive exposure to the club and national team football. After going without a goal since the loss to Norwich City in mid-September, Antoine Semenyo is moved to the bench.
The same improvised back line that earned a point against Swansea is still in place, with Zak Vyner in the middle, George Tanner on his right, and Cameron Pring on his left. The two wingers are Jay Dasilva and Mark Sykes, with the former being a constant in the league.
Weimann either serves as cover in the role or switches with Tommy Conway in the midfield, where Alex Scott has recovered from his illness to maintain a starting spot together with Matty James. The front-runners are predicted to be Tommy Conway and Nahki Wells.
As a result of the virus crisis clearing up, numerous Under-21 players joined Ali Hines’ team for their 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic. While Max O’Leary and Daniel Bentley are favored, summer addition Stefan Bajic was in goal and is still looking for a spot in a senior match-day team.
Raphael Araoye and Jamie Knight-Lebel participated in last week’s senior training while also competing against the Addicks. Also participating was Dylan Kadji, who made his senior debut in August and has made a number of Championship replacement appearances. Han-Noah Massengo, a Frenchman who was out of contract in the summer and appeared to be leaving, also played this evening.
Joe Low, the captain of the Under-21s, Timm Klose, who is back in the matchday squad, Andy King, Joe Williams, Chris Martin, and Semenyo, who was benched, are all among the substitutes. Not mentioned is Rob Atkinson, who withdrew from the starting lineup 50 minutes before the game began.
Max O’Leary, George Tanner, Zak Vyner, Cameron Pring, Mark Sykes, Alex Scott, Matty James, Andi Weimann, Jay Dasilva, Tommy Conway, and Nahki Wells make up Bristol City’s (3-5-2) starting lineup.
