The aim of this lecture is to present on Grammar Rules: Subject or Verb Agreement. A singular subject needs a singular verb, and a plural subject needs a plural verb. (Reminder: The verb is the action word in the sentence. The subject is who or what does the action). Subjects and verbs must work together. They must agree. A verb that ends in a single -s, -es, or -ies is used with a singular noun. Basic Rule. A singular subject (she, Bill, car) takes a singular verb (is, goes, shines), whereas a plural subject takes a plural verb. Example: The list of items is/are on the desk. If you know that list is the subject, then you will choose is for the verb.
