Exploring the Past

It’s always fun to get out the family photo album and look over it once in a while. If not overdone, nostalgia journeys can be quite rejuvenating. The album’s opening page features photos of my parents shortly after their wedding. They were both young, and my mother looked stunning. My father was trim and attractive. The gap between then and now, some twenty years later, is astounding. My mother is now roughly twice her former size, and my father flaunts a newly acquired pot-belly.

The other pages have images of my brothers, sisters, and myself at various phases of development. I glance at a snapshot of me as a newborn. It’s hard to believe that the bare mass of flesh was ever mine. How things have changed and how I have developed. You would also be unable to picture me in my birthday suit right now.

Other photos of my family remind me of special occasions. One photo of me with a toy car reminds me of the joy I had when my father bought me the automobile. I had a great time playing with it. In fact, I still have the automobile somewhere under my bed. It is still in serviceable condition, so I shall have to get it out and clean it.

There’s also a photo of me standing in front of a blackboard for the first time in my life, writing my name on it. The text are readable, but the handwriting is appalling. Anyway, it was a start, and I can claim that my handwriting has improved significantly.

My favorite photos are of cars that belonged to my father. They remind me of the autos in which we used to travel. It never ceases to amaze me how the shape and design of automobiles have evolved throughout time. What I considered to be the latest in those bygone years now appears ridiculous when I look at the images.

Fashion is another apparent example of how things have changed over time. My father used to wear Veer bell-bottom trousers, which are no longer fashionable. Who knows, they may become popular again in the future.

I’m getting closer to the present as I turn more pages of the album. So there are images of me from about a year ago. I didn’t look too different back then. My family members all have the same appearance. Perhaps if I look at the album again in many years, I will notice the changes.

The future appears far, yet I’ve noticed that time really does fly. I was a baby once, and now I’m about to graduate from high school. One thing I know is that if I want to go back in time and see how I used to be, all I have to do is get out the album and flip through the pages.
