Deindustrialization is a process in which the industrial activity in a country or region is removed or reduced because of a major economic or social change. It is the opposite of industrialization. Deindustrialization usually occurs because a particular industrial activity is no longer economically viable. Deindustrialization also explanations that see it as a positive process of, for example, maturity of the economy, and those that associate deindustrialization with negative factors like bad economic performance.
