Attribution theory is concerned with how individuals interpret events and how this relates to their thinking and behavior. This theory assumes that people try to determine why people do what they do. Attribution theory is closely associated with the concept of motivation. It has been criticized as being mechanistic and reductionist for assuming that people are rational, logical and systematic thinkers.
