Acceleration means speeding up. Acceleration is the rate at which velocity changes. This can be an Increase in speed; Decrease in speed or Change in direction. Example: How can a car be accelerating if its speed is a constant 65 km/h? If it is changing directions it is accelerating. To calculate acceleration, divide the change in velocity by the total time. Acceleration values are expressed in units of velocity per time, including meters per second squared.
