According to a check from none other than Steve Jobs that is up for sale, Apple Incorporated started off little. The check, which was written in 1976—the same year the business was founded—for $175, is now being auctioned off for more than $16,000.
The cheque was put up for sale on April 17 through RR sale; the current offer is a stunning $16,500; bidding close next week. The Wells Fargo check, according to RR Auction’s listing, also contains some Apple Easter eggs, including Steve Jobs’ signature, which is written as “Steven jobs,” and the address 770 Welch Road in Palo Alto, which the startup company used as a mail drop and answering service while operating out of Jobs’ garage. The cheque is worth more than $25,000, according to RR Auction.
“It’s a remarkable, flawless check from when Steve Jobs hired Apple’s first consulting firms—a central moment in the history of the most innovative and influential companies,” said Bobby Livingston, executive vice president of RR Auction, in an emailed statement to Gizmodo.
Jobs wrote a check to Crampton, Remke & Miller, Incorporated, a management consulting firm in Palo Alto, California, from the Apple Computer Company account. Xerox, Atari, and Memorex are among the firm’s other clients. As a result, the check appears to be a relic of Jobs and his co-founders’ efforts to launch what is now a tech behemoth.
Not all Apple artifacts have lately been sold at auction. An untouched, first-generation iPhone was put up for sale by LCG Auctions earlier this year. The phone belongs to Karen Green, who after beginning a new job received it as a present from her friends. The winning price at the end of the auction for Green’s iPhone, an 8 GB first-generation iPhone with a camera that initially sold for $599 in 2007, was a whopping $63,356.40.
