Tidal resonance occurs once the tide excites among the resonant modes with the ocean. The effect is most striking every time a continental shelf is approximately a quarter wavelength vast. Then an event tidal wave might be reinforced by reflections involving the coast and the shelf edge, the actual result producing a much higher tidal range in the coast. Famous types of this effect are found in the Fresh of Fundy, the location where the world’s highest tides usually are reportedly found, and in the Bristol Channel.
