State socialism is held in contrast with libertarian socialism, which rejects the particular view that socialism might be constructed by applying existing state organizations or by governmental procedures. By contrast, proponents of state socialism claim that the state, by way of practical considerations associated with governing, must play a minimum of a temporary component in building socialism. Nevertheless, these states had only a limited number associated with socialist characteristics.
