Social History refers to a subdiscipline of the historical sciences on the one hand and to a general approach to history that focuses on society at large on the other hand. It is the history that concentrates upon the social, economic, and cultural institutions of a people compare. It was included numerous topics that were not part of the mainstream historiography of political, military, diplomatic and constitutional history. Social history can be best defined in terms of what it wants not to be or against that to which it proposes an alternative.
