Materials science incorporates regions of physics, chemistry, in addition to engineering. Materials science is an interdisciplinary field which relates to the discovery and design of fresh materials, with an emphasis on solids. The intellectual beginnings of materials science are in the Enlightenment, when analytical thinking from chemistry, physics, and engineering did start to be used to understand ancient, phenomenological findings in metallurgy and mineralogy.
