Lyme disease, also recognized as Lyme borreliosis, is a contagious illness caused by bacteria of the borrelia kind. The most ordinary sign of contagion is an escalating area of redness, known as erythema migrans, that starts at the site of a tick bite about a week after it has occurred. The rash is usually neither itchy nor painful.
