Vinegar is a fluid consisting chiefly of acetic acid and water. The acetic acid is created by the fermentation of ethanol by acetic acid bacteria. Vinegar is at the present chiefly used as a cooking ingredient. Previously, as the most simply accessible mild acid, it had a enormous diversity of industrial, medical and domestic uses, several of which are still promoted today.
