Double Taxation is a taxation principle referring to income taxes that are paid twice on the same source of gained income. Double taxation takes place because corporations are viewed separate legal entities from their shareholders. When corporations fork out dividends to investors, those dividend repayments incur income-tax liabilities with the shareholders who receive them, even although the earnings that provided the cash to pay this dividends were already taxed at the corporate level.
