In law, codification is the process of collecting and restating legal issues of a jurisdiction using areas, usually by means of subject, forming any legal code i. e. a codex (book) of law. Codification is the defining feature of civil law jurisdictions. Historical Sumer’s Code of Ur-Nammu was produced circa 2100-2050 B.C., and is the initial known surviving civil code.
