Blood Transfusion

Blood Transfusion

Blood Transfusion is the transfer of blood or blood products from donor into another person’s bloodstream (recipient). Transfusions are used for various medical conditions to replace lost components of the blood. It is usually done as a lifesaving maneuver to replace blood cells or blood products lost through severe bleeding, during surgery when blood loss occurs or to increase the blood count in an anemic patient. Red blood cell transfusion was considered when the hemoglobin level fell below 10 g/dL or hematocrit falls below 30% (the “10/30 rule”).
