Baaishakhi Mela is held on the first day of the Bangla New Year. It is a part and parcel of Bengali culture. It is perhaps the largest and most comprehensive celebration of the arena of Bengali culture. On this day the cities and villages of Bangladesh wear a new dress. The day is celebrated with traditional festivities across the country. People are looking forward to welcoming the year through this celebration. A Baishakhi Mela is an annual gathering. It is a yearly common affair that reflects our culture and tradition. It is a great attraction for the village people.
It is held on the 1st day of the Bengali month Baishak. Many fairs are held in Boishakh month. This festival bears exhibition, music, poetry, crafts, photography, theatre, etc. in the urban area. Some are held for one day and some are for many days. It is generally held in the open place or on the bank of a river or a canal. Various handicrafts, wood and bamboo crafts, potteries, funny goods, sweets and so on are sold in this fair. In baaishakhi mela there are many cultural programs like the ceremony of folksong, bhatiali and murshidi are held. A crowd of people visits the fair. This festival encompasses exhibition music, poetry, crafts, photography, there in the urban area. The Ramna Batamool is the center around which the New year celebration has spread around the city and gradually across the country.
Circus parties are found in Baishakhi Mela. They often bring trained elephants, horses, monkeys, bears to entertain the spectators. There are many things sold and bought here. This mela prevails with various traditional products. All men, women, and children gather in the Baishaki mela in a large number. The children buy many toys balloons, sweets and other attractive things on this day. The origin of this fair was in the heart of our village. People of the villages are greatly impressed by Jatra parties. People of all ages and walks of life, irrespective of caste and creed enjoy the fair by buying traditional goods. Panta-bhat is sold and served by young women.
Really on this day, the whole Bangle is happy and they make the plan for the whole year. It is a matter of pride that we celebrate our cultural identity in a true sprit through Baishaki Mela. It appears before the villagers as well as the city dwellers with joy and merriment.
