It is a broadly described annual report of GrameenPhone Limited in the year of 2004. GrameenPhone has become one of the largest contributors to the Government Exchequer. Since its inception, in the last eight years of operation, the company has contributed around BDT 30.46 billion on account of various taxes, levies, license fees and interconnection charges. During the year 2004 alone, the company contributed around BDT 11.53 billion to the Government Treasury. Revenue in 2004 grew by 57 percent, compared to last year and as a result EBITDA and net profit were recorded at a higher level. A major part of the profit was reinvested in the expansion of the network in order to meet the pressing demand for GP coverage in new areas.
The Board distributed an interim dividend of BDT 593.46 million (@ BDT 10.5 per share) for the year 2004 and is pleased to recommend final dividends of BDT 1,921.67 million (@BDT 34 per share) for consideration and approval of the shareholders, for distribution. Based on the final recommendation the total dividends for 2004 would stand at BDT 2,515.13 million.
