The people of Dhaka are suffering seriously due to an unusual increase in the prices of daily necessaries. The prices of essential commodities have gone beyond the capacity of the poor and fixed income people.
It is found in the local markets that rice sells 40-55 Tk. per kg, flour 35, soya bean oil Tk. 115 per liter and onion Tk. 90 per kg. Prices of all other daily necessaries have been found to increase in the same way. It is learned from the customers and retailers that market syndicate is mostly responsible for this price hike. Besides, some dishonest people store essential commodities with a view to making huge profits. This causes a sharp decrease in the supply in the market which contributes to an increase in prices.
The City Mayor, (Name)…… said, “Price hike at Dhaka is nothing new. The whole country is suffering from high prices of commodities due to the increase in prices in the international market and money inflation at the national level. Yet we are alert to check any tampering in the market.”
Most of the common people do not agree with the Mayor. “These are lame excuses. We just want to have the prices within our reach. We just want to survive,” said Mr./Mrs. ……(Name), a retired teacher/govt. officer/banker etc. of the locality.
Most of the people in Bangladesh live below the poverty line. Their condition is going to be more serious. Govt. should take immediate steps to bring down the prices of daily necessaries to relieve the sufferings of the people.
