Tumblr’s Parent Company is Buying Popular Podcast App Pocket Casts

Pocket Casts will soon be a new home. Tumblr and the parent company of WordPress.com are buying a podcast app for media radio groups, including Automatic NDR and BBC Studio. It did not automatically disclose how much it would pay for pocket costs. Co-founders Russell Ivanovic and Philip Simpson will be in charge of the pocket cassette team. It looks like automakers are already thinking about ways to incorporate the multi-platform application into their blogging tools.

“As part of Automatic, PocketCasts will continue to provide you with the features you need to enjoy your favorite podcasts (or discover new ones),” said a WordPress.com blog post. “We will explore how to create deeper integrations with WordPress.com and pocket cassettes, making podcasts easier to distribute and listen to.” Both blogs and RSS feeds are used for podcast distribution, so it makes sense to integrate the two platforms. Earlier this year, Spotify-owned Anchor teamed up with WordPress.com to convert written material into podcasts via text-to-speech tech. It will be interesting to see how Pocket Casts makes that partnership work.
