Tamron Firmware Update Enhances AF on Zooms 28-200mm and 35-150mm

Tamron Firmware Update Enhances AF on Zooms 28-200mm and 35-150mm

Tamron has released a firmware update for its Sony E-mount 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD (Model A071) and 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD (Model A058) full-frame lenses.

Tamron promises “significantly improved” autofocus performance with the latest firmware update, including improved accuracy when tracking a moving subject. Furthermore, when capturing video, the lenses now feature the AF Assist function.

Version 3 of the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD lens has been released, while version 4 of the 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 zoom has been released. The Tamron Lens Utility may be used to update the 35-150mm lens, however, the 28-200mm zoom must be updated through the camera body. Tamron’s support website has firmware for the 28-200mm lens.

The Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD is a 2020 all-in-one zoom lens. It was — and continues to be — the world’s first all-in-one zoom lens for full-frame cameras, with an f/2.8 aperture at the wide end.

“The new 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 is a distillation of all Tamron’s accumulated all-in-one zoom experience and it was specifically developed as an all-in-one zoom for daily use on a full-frame mirrorless camera,” Tamron claimed at the time. “Tamron chose Model A071 as the model name in a nod to ’71’ representing the world’s original compact all-in-one zoom.”

Tamron’s 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD lens is available for $800.

Tamron unveiled the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 lens in 2021, and it was recently available for Nikon Z mirrorless cameras.

The well-known lens is intended for vacation and portrait photography. “Incorporating the most commonly used focal lengths from wide-angle and standard to medium telephoto and telephoto all within this single lens allows for seamless shooting without the need to swap lenses, which is especially useful when shooting portraits, where a sense of rhythm is especially important.” “This allows the user to capture outstanding shots without missing the model’s fleeting expressions,” Tamron explains.

Tamron’s VXD linear motor focusing system is used in the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 lens, providing high-speed and high-precision autofocus. Autofocus performance should improve even more with the latest firmware.

The Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD lens is priced at $1,900 for E-mount cameras and $2,000 for Z-mount cameras.
