Streptococcus is a kind of cocas Gram positive bacteria belonging to the phylum Firm cutes and the Lactobacillales order. Cellular division happens along a single axis in these bacteria, and thus they raise in chains or pairs, hence the name from Greek streptos, meaning easily bent or twisted, similar to a chain.
