North Atlantic System emerged in Canada plus the northern US and also was based primarily on fishing, timber and furs. There was clearly no need with regard to large collections of slave labour with regard to these activities. In the matter of furs, trading with Local peoples was more efficient as they were a great deal more efficient trappers. This is not to ever suggest that northern native peoples did not suffer as a result of the European settlers because they definitely did.
