The magnetic sail has been invented by Dana Andrews and Robert Zubrin employed in collaboration in 1988. A magnetic sail is a proposed method associated with spacecraft propulsion which would use a static magnet field to deflect incurred particles radiated from the Sun as a plasma wind, and therefore impart momentum to help accelerate the spacecraft. A magnetic sail may also thrust directly next to planetary and solar magnetospheres.
