The official title is the Convention of Biological Diversity on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat. The convention was developed and adopted by participating nations at a meeting in Ramsar, Iran on February 2, 1971 and came into force on December 21, 1975. . Bangladesh has signed this binding agreement in 1971 that requires her to designate at least one site as a wetland of international importance, to discharge international responsibilities for wildfow conservation, to develop wetlands nature reserves, and to train personnel for wetland management. For this purpose, Bangladesh has identified “Sundarban wet lands ” as a wetland of international importance.
