Internal Sources of Recruitment
Internal sources of recruitment involve motivating the employees of the organization to apply for the openings within the organization. It refers to recruiting employees from within the organization. In deciding requirement of employees, initial consideration should be given to a company’s current employees, which is concerned with internal recruitment. This is an important source of recruitment as it provides opportunities for better development and utilization of existing human resources in the organization.
So, Internal Sources of Recruitment mean hiring people from within the organization. In other words, seeking applicants for the job positions from those who are currently employed with the firm. It includes present employees, employee referrals, former employees and former applicants.
There are two aspects of recruitment from internal sources. They are as follows:
It refers to promoting or upgrading an employee who is already existed in the payroll and contributed for organizational performance. It is done by shifting an employee to a higher position with high responsibilities, facilities, status, and pay.
Usually, many companies fill higher job vacancies by promoting employees who are considered fit for such positions. This is due to fact that it has a great psychological impact on other employees for their motivation towards better performance.
Transfer means shifting an employee from one job to another, typically of similar nature, without any change in his rank and responsibility. It is an alternative technique to promotion. Under it, employees are internally recruited through transfer from one workplace to another. It means transfer refers to the process of interchanging the job duties and responsibilities of employees from one place to another or from one department to another.
The purpose of an employee transfer is to enable him to get well-versed with the broad-based view of the organization which is essential for the promotions in future. It involves shifting of people from one job to another without any promotion in their position or grade. It is a good source of generating qualified employees from over-staffed departments.
- Employee Referrals
The present employees can refer their friends and family to the job. They are well aware of the organizational culture, working conditions and job requirements. If they find their friends or family suitable for such position can recommend their names to the management for recruitment.
