Industrial society is characterized by means of external energy solutions, such as fossil powers, to increase the rate and degree of production. With sociology, industrial society means a society driven by means of technology to make it possible for mass production, supporting a huge population with a top capacity for split of labor. Industrial society makes urbanization desirable, in part so that workers can be closer to centers of production.
