Genetic engineering is the process of manually adding new DNA for an organism. The goal is always to add one or more new traits which might be not already found in that organism. Examples of genetically manufactured (transgenic) organisms currently out there include plants with resistance for some insects, plants which could tolerate herbicides, in addition to crops with revised oil content.
