The central political tenet associated with ethnic nationalism is that ethnic groups can be identified unambiguously, which each such group is entitled to self-determination. The upshot of this right to self-determination are vastly different, from calls intended for self-regulated administrative bodies inside an already-established society, a great autonomous entity individual from that community, to a sovereign state taken off that society.
